A new institution, Handicrafts & Carpet Sector Skill Council, will be launched by Shri Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (I/C) & Parliamentary Affairs, coinciding with the distribution of the 20thHandicrafts Export Awards tomorrow.
The institution will promote skill development among artisans, craft persons and workers of handicrafts and carpet products, at grassroots level. This would enable them to adopt latest techniques and become more productive.
The Council will be responsible for developing occupational standards; setting up labour market infrastructure;introducing certification & assessment mechanism and providing guidance to the artisans, crafts persons and workers in all aspects of skill development. The Council will operate from New Delhi.
The Council is being formed in line with the emphasis given to skill development by the Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi.
The Prime Minister has underlined the importance of skill development for producing internationally competitive, uniform and good quality products.
The Council is being launched at the 20th Handicrafts Export Awards Presentation Function tomorrow.
Shri Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (I/C) & Parliamentary Affairs will be the Chief Guest; he will launch the new institution. Shri Santosh Kumar Gangwar, Minister of State for Textiles (I/C) will preside over the function and distribute the Export awards. Shri S.K. Panda, Secretary (Textiles) will be the Guest of Honour; Shri S.K. Biswas, Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) will grace the occasion. Luminaries from the industry, handicrafts exporters and the media too will attend.
