Bangladesh, to the east of India on the Bay of Bengal, is a South Asian country marked by lush greenery and many waterways, the Padma (Ganges), Meghna and Jamuna rivers create fertile plains around this area.

India was the first country to recognize Bangladesh as a separate and independent state and established diplomatic relations with the country immediately after its independence in December 1971. India’s links with Bangladesh are civilizational, cultural, social and economic. In the last more than four decades, the two countries have continued to consolidate their relations and have built a comprehensive institutional framework to promote bilateral cooperation in all areas.
